Shooting in Baltimore leaves 12-year-old girl dead

A 12-year-old girl was killed, and three others sustained wounds after a shooting occurred at Leon Day Park in West Baltimore on Saturday evening (October 3, 2026). Officers from the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) responded to the park around 6:15 p.m. They found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

While speaking to reporters during a news briefing, BPD Commissioner Richard Worley said that one of them was an adult woman and the other was a 12-year-old girl, as reported by CBS News and The Baltimore Banner. The injured individuals were provided aid at the scene and were then taken to the hospital.

The 12-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. On the other hand, the police said that the injuries sustained by the adult woman were apparently non-life-threatening and she was listed in stable condition, according to the news outlets.

According to Commissioner Worley, at the time when officers were at the scene, two adult men who were also left wounded in the shooting walked into area hospitals for treatment. Their injuries were also not considered life-threatening, similar to the case of the adult woman, and they were also listed in stable condition.

What led to the shooting

The incident was triggered by an argument between two adult men while people were gathered for a youth football game, according to Worley. Citing an initial investigation, he further stated that the argument started over a parking spot.

Worley said that no suspects were arrested and officers were following some leads linked to the case. "What we know is that there was some type of argument between two cowards. And of course they both opened fire on each other," Worley said, as quoted by CBS News.

"And in the crossfire, a 12-year-old little girl, who was probably down there watching football -- was shot and killed."
