Neighbours describe shock after late-night violence
The attack unsettled residents of the normally quiet residential street, where emergency vehicles and police activity disrupted the neighbourhood late Friday.
The attack takes place in the midst of other violent incidents involving knives and police intervention that have occurred in Queens. According to an NBC New York report published on October 10, police responding to a slashing attack in Edgemere found themselves facing a man barricaded in his apartment. Two people were admitted to hospital and the police said that an officer fired a gun while trying to gain entry into the apartment. No one was injured by the gunfire.
The incidents are separate, and the available reporting does not establish any connection between them.
