A power outage is impacting parts of Skiatook, OK and the authorities there are asking people to stay alert and exercise caution. The Skiatook PD, Skiatook Electric Department and the Skiatook E-911 Communications Center are all aware of the disruption and are co-ordinating their response. Power is still out in some areas, but officials have been issuing a number of safety messages, with a particular focus on drivers and residents who may be faced with electrical hazards.

What areas are affected by the power cut?

The outage has impacted parts of Skiatook, though no details have been given as to which areas exactly or how many customers are without power. In a Facebook post, the Skiatook PD stated the three agencies were aware of the situation and were working together as required.

Officials have also said they'll share further information as it becomes available and have thanked residents for their patience in the meantime as the outage is sorted.

What should residents do when the power's out?

Traffic safety is a major issue during the outage. Anyone approaching an intersection where the traffic signals are out should treat it as a four way stop. Drivers are being asked to slow right down and proceed with care. Emergency services are still available despite the disruption. The police, fire and emergency medical services can still come out if required.

However officials have asked residents to keep the 911 lines free for genuine emergencies. You shouldn't be calling 911 just to report a power failure or to find out when the power is going to come back. The information is taken from KTUL and News On 6.

Electrical safety remains important

Residents are also being asked to stay clear of any downed power lines. If you do come across an immediate electrical hazard then please report it. The local agencies have not announced a restoration time and have not given any further information as to the cause of the outage. For the moment the message from Skiatook is to be cautious, particularly on the roads and to only use the emergency services when absolutely necessary. Updates will be provided as further information becomes available.
