Three people were injured and hospitalized after a shooting at the Las Vegas Arts District during the First Friday event on Friday (October 2), local media reported. The shooting occurred around 10:17 pm at Charleston Boulevard and Main Street. Police blocked traffic along Charleston Boulevard at Art Way to Grand Central, 8 News Now reported citing the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.

Police continue probe

The medical condition of the three persons taken to the hospital were not known, according to a statement from Las Vegas Metro police. Police continued to investigate the incident and said that the scene had been secured. Visuals shared on social media from the scene showed heavy police presence and crime scene tape.

First Friday is a monthly event in downtown Las Vegas that brings the community together to celebrate different forms of art. "First Friday showcases local artists and their work and keeps the spirit of creativity alive in the city. Whether you're an art enthusiast, a foodie, or just looking for a fun night out, First Friday offers something for everyone," the official website of the Las Vegas city said.

In an earlier post on social media, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) said that a curfew had been placed in the area. "For unaccompanied minors under 18, the downtown enhanced curfew is 9 p.m.–5 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, legal holidays and New Year’s Eve. This enhanced area applies to the downtown section bordered by Maryland Parkway, Bridger Avenue, Main Street and Stewart Avenue, shown on the map, including the Fremont Street Experience."

2 injured in Eden Prairie shooting

The news comes shortly after two people were injured and admitted to the hospital after a shooting at the Eden Prairie High School in Minnesota. That incident occurred during a homecoming football game on Friday night, CBS News reported. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the incident in a social media post late on Friday. "No homecoming, in any community, should be disrupted by gun violence," Walz said.
