Jimmy Kimmel roasts Trump’s new Press Secretary Katie Zacharia- here's what he said about her rocky White House first press briefing

Jimmy Kimmel had plenty to say about Katie Zacharia after she held her first White House press briefing on October 13. The late-night host mocked her short appearance, her praise for President Donald Trump and her past political commentary, as per a rpeort by TV Insider and USA Today.

Katie Zacharia was appointed to the role on October 9, replacing Karoline Leavitt. She previously worked as a conservative commentator and a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security.

Why did Jimmy Kimmel mock Katie Zacharia’s first briefing?

On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel described Zacharia’s first press briefing as a “total disaster.” He said he was impressed by how poorly it had gone, despite lasting only 14 minutes.

“It was the first day of kindergarten for the new White House press secretary, Katie Zacharia,” Kimmel said.

He then took a swipe at Trump’s choice of press secretary, saying, “You know, Trump’s been president for quite a long time now. I think it’s been about what? 50, 60 years? And in order to keep him awake and interested, every six months they bring in a new fawning blonde dolt to add to the rotation.”

Kimmel also gave the new press secretary a nickname: “Malibu Katie.” Kimmel said things did not get off to a good start for “Malibu Katie.” He added, “Her first briefing was brief. It was only 14 minutes long, but even in that short time, she accomplished exactly what she was brought in to do, which is slobber a whole tube of lip gloss all over the president’s behind.”

Zacharia began her briefing by saying she had wanted to work for Trump for a “very long time.”

Kimmel responded, “And really, that’s all it takes nowadays. All it takes is that and dressing like you’re about to announce pre-boarding on a Delta Airlines flight.”

He also mocked her delivery, saying, “Her reading is good for an 11-year-old. [Trump] hired a fourth grader to be press secretary.”

What did Kimmel say about Zacharia’s past comments?

The comedian also brought up Zacharia’s earlier political commentary. He criticised her for calling Democrats pedophiles on social media and giving weight to Pizza-gate. Kimmel also played clips of her past remarks, including claims that the 2020 election was stolen, attacks on Anthony Fauci and her criticism of Kimmel himself, whom she called “a laughing stock.”

Another clip showed Zacharia describing The Odyssey as a “woke movie” and predicting that it would struggle at the box office.

Kimmel was quick to respond. “Well, that woke movie went on to make $1.8 billion,” he said. “We got a smart one here.”

He also joked about Zacharia accidentally saying “my president” instead of “my husband” while speaking about her family.

White House responds to Kimmel’s criticism

Kimmel also raised questions about Zacharia’s reported background as a lawyer. He said a reporter asked where she was licensed to practise law after Trump had described her as a lawyer. According to Kimmel, Zacharia responded to a question about where she had passed the bar by saying, “When I moved to China.” Trump appeared confused in the clip.

Kimmel joked, “He’s like, ‘Oh boy. Even my press secretary is made in China!’”

The White House pushed back against Kimmel’s remarks. Spokesperson Davis Ingle told USA TODAY, “Jimmy Kimmel is a no-talent loser who has beclowned himself with tanking ratings and by spewing disgusting lies to his dwindling audience. He is so devoid of actual talent that nobody with any commonsense would ever watch him unless it was to laugh at his miserable failures.”

Kimmel had also mocked Zacharia’s appointment during his October 12 monologue. He joked that she met the job’s requirements because “She has blonde hair. She can do a thumbs up. End of list. Really, what else do you need?”
