Jalen Hurts Philadelphia Eagles quarterback will miss Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers after a follow-up scan revealed movement in a blood clot in his leg. The news came Thursday, after Hurts had played in the team’s recent game in London and continued practicing during the week. The Eagles said his health and safety were their top priority as they determine the next steps for his treatment, as per a report The New York Post and Philadelphia Eagles official statement.
Fans quickly reacted to the news, with many sending prayers and calling for the team to put his recovery first.
What happened to Jalen Hurts?
The Eagles said Hurts first sought treatment for his calf on October 8. He told the medical staff that he had been cleated during the October 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He had practiced in full on Wednesday and Thursday before receiving treatment on Friday and appearing on the injury report.
The team arranged an ultrasound on Saturday after traveling to London. The scan revealed a
superficial blood clot. After reviewing the results, the medical staff and doctors in London concluded that Hurts could safely play and that activity and mobility were important. They recommended another ultrasound within 72 hours of the game and the return flight to Philadelphia.
Hurts played without limitation against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. He received treatment on Monday and Tuesday and practiced in full on Wednesday.
However, the follow-up scan on Wednesday night showed movement in the clot. The Eagles announced that he would sit out Sunday's matchup against Carolina while they determine the appropriate treatment. “His health and safety are our highest priority,” the team said in its statement.
How did fans react to Hurts’ injury?
The news prompted an outpouring of concern on social media. Many fans wished the quarterback a speedy recovery, while others questioned the decision to let him play in London after the initial scan revealed a clot.
One fan account, Cooper DeJAWN, posted: “Jalen Hurts has carried the weight of Philadelphia on his shoulders. Now it's our turn to lift him up in prayer 1️⃣”
Another fan, Tyler, wrote: “Holy shit. Prayers to Jalen. ”

Ryan Paganetti praised the team's handling of the situation, posting: “Nothing more important than making sure he is safe and healthy. Great job by the Eagles medical staff being on top of this.”
People on Reddit also expressed their concern for Halen's injury. One commented, "That’s some scary shit. I’m happy he and the team are being smart. Not just for his football career, but life overall." Another fan said, "This is crazy. Blood clots are nothing to play with especially if they start moving or there’s danger of further movement."
Other fans questioned the decision to play international games, while some began looking ahead to the possibility of backup quarterback
Tanner McKee getting an opportunity.
