Is Trump ignoring the midterm defeat? President showcases White House Ballroom in his public appearance post-midterms
Donald Trump returned to public view after the midterm elections, emphasizing the importance of the White House ballroom project. He praised the construction and indicated the project was nearing completion. During this visit, Trump addressed the ...

Why did Trump focus on the White House ballroom?
Speaking to construction workers on Wednesday, Trump called the planned ballroom one of the most impressive structures of its kind. The visit marked his first public appearance since Republicans suffered major losses, with Democrats regaining control of both chambers of Congress. The inputs are taken from NBC News.“This is a special structure. It’s going to be not only one of the biggest, but it’ll be the most beautiful ballroom, I think, anywhere in the world, and they’ve been trying to get it for 150 years,” Trump told workers.
The president said the project was approaching an important stage and suggested its official opening could happen soon.
“This will be something very special. And so we’re putting up the last piece of steel. I thought it would be appropriate to have the media here,” he added.
“I’m doing it because the White House is the ultimate symbol of America and it’s got to be pristine — it’s got to be perfect,” he said. “And if you take a look at it, that’s what it is right now. You have no idea how much work we had to do.”
Trump largely avoided discussing the midterm results during his remarks. When reporters asked about the election, he faced questions about House Republican leadership and Vice President JD Vance’s explanation for the party’s losses. Asked about the possibility of a new House Republican leader after Speaker Mike Johnson decided not to run again, Trump replied, “We’ll stay out of it.” He also said he had not asked Johnson to step down.
However, Trump made clear he would still have taken the same action.
“At the same time, if I had it to do again, I’d have to do it again because long term it’s the only answer. You can’t let Iran have a nuclear weapon.”
Ballroom project remains a major Trump focus
Trump announced the ballroom plans in July 2025 and has repeatedly discussed the project during White House events and campaign rallies. He also praised the marble selected for the floor and said the walls would feature extensive glass. The project has faced legal challenges, although the Supreme Court said in late August that construction could continue indefinitely.Trump had also focused heavily on renovations during his final speech before the midterm elections on Monday. Speaking near the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, he spent much of the address discussing changes he had ordered in Washington, D.C., rather than the election.
