‘Ilhan Omar’ may not be her real name, report claims; surname matches ex-husband’s, who is also rumoured to be her brother
Ilhan Omar, the Minnesota congresswoman, is reportedly using a name other than her birth name. Allegations have surfaced that her marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi was an attempt to obtain a green card. Omar has denied the claims about her relations...

Fox News shared US Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s court filings, which show investigators identified the Democrat as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”
The outlet wrote “Omar is not the congresswoman’s birth name.” One of the source stated that “That's not her real name,” when asked why the motion used the "a/k/a Ilhan Adbullahi Omar” in the document.
The outlet also reported citing a former Minnesota federal immigration judge that if it is proven in court that Omar has lived her “entire lives under an alias,” every form she ever filled out could be “called into question.”
The New York Post on Tuesday reported that Omar married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, who is rumored to be his brother, is actually “a failed effort to get him a green card.”
When asked by Chris Hayes of MS NOW on the allegation that she wed her brother, she responded, “Not to my knowledge,” the New York Post quoted. “Insinuations that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi is my brother are absurd and offensive,” she said in a statement published by MPR News in August this year.
Omar married Elmi, whom she denied any blood relation to, in 2009. She told The Associated Press in an interview in 2018 that their relationship ended in 2011, but “did they not immediately divorce.”
She filed for a divorce six years later, and the marriage was dissolved on December 4, 2017. Omar then married her ex-husband, Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, with whom she had a traditional marriage(not a legal one) on January 5, 2018, AP reported, citing a marriage certificate.
After publication of the report by FOX a spokesperson from Omar's office disputed the report saying, “This is completely false. Ilhan Omar is her real name.”
