GTA 6’s massive file size may spell trouble for console gamers; here’s how much storage PS5 and Xbox users may have to give up

Everyone expected GTA 6’s file size to be massive, and now there is a number behind it, which will make it one of the largest games ever, although not official. With pre-loading set to start on November 12, ahead of its release on November 19, PlayStation backend tracker PlayStation Game Size on X revealed that the $80 standard edition will take up 210GB of storage capacity.


No file size or other information was released by the X account for the $100 Ultimate Edition, which has a ton of extra content over the regular version. And for the Xbox Series X|S file size, GTA 6’s file size may remain the same, predicts some gaming outlets.


Cyberleek, the infamous GTA leaker who went off-grid for some period, returned in October and reported a similar size. If this all is true, console gamers might have some major cleanup to do to play GTA V seamlessly.

What does it mean for console gamers if GTA needs over 200 GB of download storage?

If players really need more than 200 GB of free disk space to download GTA 6, it could pose significant problems for them. And to solve it, players may need to make big sacrifices, one of which is actually uninstalling other applications that are eating up their space.

SVG’s Joey Car explained in an article that for people using PS5, which has 665 GB of usable space, GTA 6 will take up nearly one-third of the total storage capacity. So they can keep only two or possibly three other games.

For the Xbox Series S, which has roughly 365 GB of storage, GTA 6 will gobble up more than half of the console’s space, Car predicts. However, X series users may be in a more relaxed position as their consoles have around 800 GB usable space.

“One console that likely won't have issues is the PS5 Pro, which has a whopping 1.86 TB of usable space,” he wrote.

And for PC users, this strictly single-player game is expected in early 2027.
