As they arrived on the scene, officers determined that the child had died two days earlier, on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The two caregivers were identified as Reva Ogles, 36, and George Togeg, 46. In a statement, the Jones County Sheriff's Office said that the two knew that the child died on Tuesday, but neither called law enforcement nor asked for medical assistance until Thursday evening.
Ogles and Togeg were taken into custody at the scene and were initially charged with one count of concealing a death each, according to the sheriff’s office. Further investigation led to additional charges of first-degree cruelty to children.

“Following further investigation and examination of the scene, both individuals are now charged with cruelty to children in the first degree," the sheriff's office statement said. “The investigation remains ongoing. The cause and manner of the child’s death remain pending the results of an autopsy, and additional charges may be added as the investigation continues and additional information becomes available,” it further stated. The two are being held at the Jones County Jail without bail.
“This is a tragic case involving the death of a child, and we ask that the child’s family and loved ones be kept in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said.
