Georgia block party shooting victims identified as probe continues to nab suspect

A fresh update has emerged in the mass shooting that occurred at a neighborhood block party in Georgia on October 4, 2026 (Sunday). The two victims who died in the shooting have been identified.

In an updated press release, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said that the victims have been identified as Ja’Quavion Aderious Jackson, 21, and Macaleb Malik Jackson, age 23. The probe agency, however, did not provide any detail regarding the suspect, who remained at large at the time of filing of this report. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

Injured victims rushed to hospital

Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday, October 4, 2026, Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy said that 35 additional victims, ranging in age from 14 to 51, sustained wounds. They were taken to regional hospitals, in conditions ranging from critical to stable.

More than 1,000 people attended the party

Peavy said that apparently more than 1,000 people attended the block party that spanned four blocks and that they all showed up at once due to the rain, as reported by NBC and ABC affiliate WALB. He further stated that he was not aware of any permits for the party, which the city would handle.

“You know, this isn’t a finger-pointing time,” Peavy was quoted by the news station as saying. “This had nothing to do with the city not having a police department at this time. I believe this would have happened anyway.

“City officers working, county officers, manpower wasn’t a problem Saturday night because I had all my dedicated men and women in law enforcement out working,” he continued. “I could have had 50 working, and I don’t think it would have done any good.”

Six probe units active

Speaking during the press conference, GBI Director Chris Hosey said that the bureau has activated six investigative units from across the state. Responding to the queries from reporters, he also stated that the majority of victims suffered gunshot wounds.

The GBI press release informed that shots rang out on the 900 block of Pine Street in Vienna, Ga., about 50 miles outside Macon, at around 1:25 a.m. local time on Saturday, October 4, 2026.
