Fairfield mall shooting leaves multiple people with gunshot wounds — here's what we know about the incident so far

Several people were injured in a shooting at a Spirit Halloween store at Solano Town Center in Fairfield, California, on Friday night (Oct. 30), leading to a police search of the mall, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. Fairfield Mayor Rick Vaccaro confirmed to CBS Sacramento that a shooting incident had occurred at the mall but said that he was not aware how many people had been injured.

Suisun City Mayor Alma Hernandez said in a statement that there were "multiple victims." The shooting was reported around 8:54 pm, at the Spirit Halloween store at 1547 Gateway Blvd., according to dispatch communication cited by the San Francisco Chronicle. Fairfield police said that officers were working on an active incident at Solano Town Center.


The Chronicle reported that a police scanner transmission appeared to indicate that three individuals had been critically injured. Two of them were taken to the North Bay Medical Center and the third to a Kaiser hospital.

Hunt on for suspect

The California Highway Patrol was helping Fairfield police with traffic control around the shopping mall. Suisun City police also responded to the shooting incident through a mutual-aid request, mayor Hernandez said. In a post on social media, the mayor said that officers were helping search for the suspect. She also appealed to residents to stay away from the mall.

"Please join us in praying for the victims and their families, and for the officers working to bring the suspect into custody," Hernandez said. "Once this incident is resolved, we will need to come together as a community to support each other, the victims, and everyone affected by this tragedy."

According to Hernandez, the mall had been cleared, but authorities had not released information about a suspect or a possible motive behind the shooting. The investigation into the shooting was ongoing.
