President Donald Trump praised his performance on cognitive tests during a rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, on October 14. He said that remembering five words proves that he is a “freaking genius.” During the monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the late-night host Jimmy Kimmel mocked Trump’s claims. He questioned how impressive the test really was.

What did Donald Trump say about his cognitive tests?

Trump described a task in which a person is asked to remember five words and repeat them later. The words Trump listed were “hat, hair, logo, white, black.” He claimed that very few people could repeat the words in the correct order.

“But I can. You know why? Because I’m a freaking genius,” Trump said.

How did Jimmy Kimmel react to Trump calling himself a genius?

On the October 14 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel turned Trump’s comments into a joke. “But if anyone was worried about his brain, don’t. He’s good. He’s giving himself cognitive tests, and he’s passing them with flying colors,” Kimmel said during his monologue.

Kimmel played footage of Trump describing the five-word task. He then joked that the test sounded like something someone might give an older family member after a fall.

“Sir, you aced this test you just made up. This is the test you would give your grandfather after he fell off a stepladder,” Kimmel said.

Kimmel continued his criticism by linking Trump’s claim about his cognitive ability to another promise attributed to the president.

During his speech, Trump promised to give every adult US citizen $5,000 if Republicans won control of both the House and Senate in November. Kimmel mocked the proposal, saying he could not decide whether it was “a bribe or a lie” before suggesting it might be both.
