Christa Pike shows significant signs of physical improvement

Fresh developments have emerged regarding the health of Christa Pike, who survived a botched execution in Tennessee. She is showing significant signs of improvement as she continues to recover. The latest update comes three weeks after the failed execution attempt left her unconscious and she was unable to communicate.

According to TMZ, Pike’s doctors are still making attempts to understand the extent of any lasting psychological and cognitive damage. Her attorney told the news platform that she is showing continuous physical improvement and is now even able to walk more on her own. The attorney further said that her speech has also improved.

Pike is now able to communicate with more clearing and is able to form full sentences. The 50-year-old wopman survived two doses of pentobarbital as executioners attempted to put her to death. She is on death row for the 1995 beating and stabbing death of classmate Colleen Slemmer. The lethal injection drug didn’t kill her. However, her lawyers claimed her arms were left burned and blistered.

While sharing updates on Pike’s recovery, her attorney said that her cognitive and psychological functioning are still being monitored. It could take another month or even beyond that to have a better idea or a clearer picture of any potential long-term effects of the failed execution.

According to the earlier update, Pike had regained consciousness and was eventually able to take a few steps and speak. However, her attorneys previously stated that she was struggling with confusion, memory issues, and significant physical injuries.

Citing 911 dispatch recordings, TMZ reported that it took 31 minutes for prison officials to confirm that a request for emergency medical assistance was legitimate. AP had also obtained recordings through a public records request.

The recordings suggested that crucial minutes elapsed as officials and responders tried to figure out whether a request for emergency help in the execution chamber was legitimate. According to TMZ, there seemed to have been some confusion between prison staff and first responders, leading to a delay in response.

Later, Pike was released from the hospital and returned to prison, where she has continued receiving medical care.
