California Crime News: Dublin police arrest married couple for shooting, killing son-in-law in park; here’s what we know about the motive

A married couple was arrested over allegations of shooting and killing their son-in-law near a park in Dublin, California, police announced on Sunday (September 27, 2026). The incident came to light when a sergeant of the Dublin Police Services noticed a man lying in the parking lot while driving near the Dublin Sports Grounds located at 6700 Dublin Blvd., just before 3:10 p.m. on Saturday (September 26, 2026). FOX2 KTVU reported, citing a police department statement.

He immediately stopped his vehicle to investigate, and around the same time, Dublin Police Services received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting in the exact area. During the investigation, authorities identified the man lying in the parking lot as Jonathan McKinsey, 40, of Dublin. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead.

Witnesses help detain suspects

Authorities managed to locate two suspects linked to the killing within minutes with the help of witnesses. The two suspects had remained nearby. "DPS thanks the witnesses and community members who assisted responding officers; their cooperation was critical to the swift arrest of the suspects," the Dublin police department said, as quoted by FOX2 KTVU.

The suspects were identified as Shouyong Zhang, 77, and Shili Chen, 77, a married couple and McKinsey’s parents-in-law, both of Dublin, according to police. They were arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into Santa Rita Jail. It is pertinent to note that the motive behind the shooting was not determined at the time of filing of this report and remained under investigation.
