She said one of her biggest fears was that people would look at Flynn’s actions and begin questioning their Christian faith. Keyt also spoke about the children who were affected by Ashley’s death. “You shattered the innocence of so many children,” Keyt said.
Kayla said the family had spent months praying that Caleb would confess and take responsibility for his actions. But, she said, "You didn't. Instead, you chose to drag us through a nationally televised trial." She said painful details about Ashley’s death and the things Caleb said about her were now permanently public. “We cannot erase the internet,” she said.

Keyt also described a conversation with one of Ashley’s daughters. The girl asked why she should believe in Jesus if he allowed the tragedy to happen to her family. Keyt said she used the moment to explain Ashley’s faith to her.
She told the girl that Christianity does not mean a person will never face pain or tragedy. She said Ashley believed Jesus would stay with people through their hardest moments.
Keyt said Ashley would not want her death to make people turn away from Jesus. “Don’t judge Jesus by the actions of people who claim to follow him,” Keyt said in her statement.
