The survey findings highlights, in the least, the extraordinary anticipation for the Rockstar Games’ major release, 13 years after the Grand Theft Auto V first hit shelves.
GTA 6 early access: What fans would give up
According to a survey by Unwind Media, 1,347 Americans who plan to buy or want to play GTA VI were asked what they would give up for a month in exchange for playing the game one week early.
The results suggest that dating apps would be the easiest trade off, with 63% of users willing to not use them entirely for an early access. Alcohol was second, with 53% of drinkers prepared to give it up, followed by smoking at 43%.
More personal trade-offs also featured prominently. One in five sexually active respondents said they would give up sex for a month to play the game early, while 7% of pet owners said they would give up their pets.
The survey also found that women were more willing than men to give up sex for early access, at 25% compared with 19%.
GTA 6 launch plans: Millions prepare to take time off
The interest is not confined to hypothetical sacrifice at all. As reported by Unwind Media, 51% of fans who intend to own the game on its release date say they will make an effort to take time off work; 62% in the case of those who pre-ordered it.
Every fourth fan will attempt to take two or more days off, and 48% are ready to spend the entire night playing.
The survey also suggests that the game could disrupt social commitments. Among fans with holiday plans, one in 10 said they would skip or shorten Thanksgiving celebrations to play, rising to 23% among those who pre-ordered.
The gap between GTA V and GTA VI has been long enough for many fans to experience major life changes. Unwind Media found that 46% had changed careers since the previous game’s 2013 release, while 27% had married and 26% had become parents.
