The X-factor
Since January 2025, Elon Musk, the world's richest man, has given over $365 million. At least $276 million since July for the 2026 midterm elections in favor of Republicans, as reported by Axios.Republican Senate candidate from Texas, Ken Paxton, received $158 million from Musk in September alone.
Reportedly, Elon Musk's financial push reignited Ken Paxton's stumbling campaign. Texas headwinds were blowing towards Democrat James Talarico in late August. Elon Musk’s strong support came after the Grand Old Party’s (GOP) Senate leadership fund hinted at Paxton losing the polls. In a very short span, Republicans gathered $20 million to put Paxton on TV, who was earlier being portrayed as the 'most corrupt politician' in America.
Elon Musk’s contribution to the Senate Leadership Fund stood at $158 million in September, which accounted for nearly 58% of the $273 million SLF fund.
