Rugby star Joe Westerman marries Alison Hopkinson, his friend’s ex-wife after his 1st marriage ended over being caught in a lewd act: Here’s what is known about his new lady love

Rugby player Joe Westerman married Alison Hopkinson on Monday, October 26. According to The Sun, Alison is the former wife of one of Joe’s friends. The wedding comes three years after Westerman was caught in a lewd act in an alleyway behind a Greggs bakery in 2023 right before the Super League season. The incident had also led to Joe being removed from the Castleford Tigers.

Joe and Alison’s wedding also comes just weeks after his ex-wife Lauren Boyd married her new husband, Karl Holmes, according to The Sun. She shared pictures from her wedding and honeymoon on social media. The caption of her post read, “Someone once told me that you’ll only ever be happy in life if you marry your friends and I feel so lucky to be doing just that.”

Lauren had ended her marriage with Joe in 2023 after a video of the incident surfaced online. They had been married for nine years at the time after tying the knot in 2014 as childhood sweethearts.

After videos of Joe’s sexual act went viral online, Lauren had not been silent. In a statement she said, “Can I make this very clear that this is not me.” She had further said that Joe and her have three children, adding, “one of whom is almost 15 and she does not need to see things like this all over social media.”

Talking to The Sun in an earlier interview, Laren had revealed that she received the video before it was posted online. She further claimed that Joe only told her because the video had surfaced online. “I am glad it was found because the thought of kissing him after that just makes me feel sick,” she told the publication. Later reports emerged that the woman in the video with Joe was one of Lauren’s friends. Lauren had thrown out Joe from their family home and proceeded with filing for divorce.

Joe had apologised for the incident both publicly and privately to Lauren. She revealed to The Sun that he had texted her saying, “It’s disgusting and I noe have to live with it forever,” adding “you deserve so much better”. He had further blamed the decision on alcohol.

Months after the incident, Joe made his new relationship with Alison Hopkins public with a post on social media. She is a local real estate agent. Alison reportedly shares two children with her former husband Carl, who she is believed to be estranged from.

According to The Sun, Carl and Joe were also friends at some point. The two had been engaged for two years, according to the Daily Star. Alison had confirmed her relationship with Joe in 2023, saying “Yes, that’s right but I don't want to say anything further.”
