Pokémon UNITE confirms March 2027 closure and introduces special event and library feature - All you need to know ahead of shutdown

The time has finally come for Pokémon UNITE to bid farewell, as it has been running for more than five years now as an entertainment platform where gamers compete against each other. This multiplayer game that is free to play will end its service in March 2027. However, developers aren't pulling the plug without giving players something to remember. A special farewell event and a new library feature will arrive in November, allowing fans to revisit their achievements even after the servers go offline. The announcement has left players with a limited window to enjoy their favorite Pokémon battles before the game disappears.

WHEN WILL POKÉMON UNITE SHUT DOWN? OFFICIAL DATE CONFIRMED

According to WorthPlaying, Pokémon UNITE will come to an end officially on March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC. The end of services will impact all Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android users since they will no longer be able to play online matches. According to Shacknews, this move ends a game which debuted for the Nintendo Switch in July 2021 but was later released for mobile platforms.

Pokémon Company acknowledged the support from the fans and stated that the earlier announced Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo competition will take place as scheduled. The reason behind the shutdown is not yet disclosed by the company.

POKÉMON UNITE ANNOUNCES SPECIAL FAREWELL EVENT AND NEW LIBRARY FEATURE

Although shutdown looms, players can look forward to having chances for obtaining items and making memories. According to the official Pokémon website, a special event beginning November 12, 2026, will introduce Unite Coins obtainable through login bonuses and in-game missions.

These coins can be traded in for already released items such as Unite Licenses, Holowear, trainer outfits, and snapshots accessories.

The library feature will enable players to go back and review their Trainer and Pokémon accomplishments as well as past tournament attendance records. They can also view their Unite licenses, customize Holowear and explore selected features even after the game's online services end.

The library will include a practice area for viewing Pokémon moves and Holowear effects, alongside a closet for Trainer customization.

Players who want to use the library feature after March 23, 2027, must complete the initial data download before the servers shut down. Library data generally cannot be transferred to another device, and deleted or lost data may not be recoverable. The company will also discontinue support for the feature after closure.

WHAT HAPPENS TO AEOS GEMS AND UNITE CLUB MEMBERSHIPS?

According to WorthPlaying, sales of Aeos Gems, the game's premium currency, have been discontinued ahead of the closure. New UNITE Club memberships and automatic renewals have also stopped, although existing subscribers can continue enjoying their benefits until their current membership expires.

Players will be able to keep using their available Aeos Gems up until the shutdown date of March 23, 2027. The official statement does not mention anything about refunding unused premium currency.

Meanwhile, the Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo tournament will proceed as planned, with qualifiers beginning December 5, 2026. The competition will offer players one final major competitive stage as the game approaches its shutdown.

For longtime fans, the coming months represent a final chance to battle alongside their favorite Pokémon before the game's online journey ends.
