LA Rams poor season pushes their Quarterback Matthew Stafford towards anunwanted record

Matthew Stafford finds himself at the center of debate regarding his future in the NFL Hall of Fame. With a career record of 122-122-1, he could potentially set a new loss record, which raises eyebrows, especially compared to Eli Manning's Hall of...

It’s not easy being a football fan in Los Angeles this season. They have two football teams to root for: the Rams and the Chargers, and they both are struggling at the moment. The former are 2-4; the latter are even worse off and find themselves at the bottom of the AFC, with a 0-6 record.

While the Bolts’ struggles have largely been attributed to Justin Herbert’s poor play, the Rams don’t have the same problem. Although Matthew Stafford hasn’t been performing at the level he did during his MVP season, he is still putting up solid numbers and carrying the Rams’ offense. However, his individual efforts haven’t translated into wins, as the team continues to struggle. If the losses keep piling up, they could soon begin to take a toll on Stafford’s record as a starting quarterback.

Stafford currently holds a 122-122-1 record across 245 starts. However, another loss would see him equal the record for most losses by an NFL QB, currently held by former New York Jets quarterback Vinny Testaverde.

Testaverde retired in 2007 with a 90-123-1 record in 214 starts, setting the unwanted mark of 123 losses. If the Rams lose their next game, Stafford will tie that record. Two more defeats would see him surpass Testaverde and claim the record for himself.

The former Bulldog hasn’t had a losing season since he came to LA when he played a full season. So why doesn’t his record reflect that? The 2025 MVP spent the majority of his career playing for the Lions, and a big chunk of his 122 losses came there. He lost 90 games in Detroit.

Given how the Rams’ season is going, it won’t be surprising if UGA Alum overtakes Testaverde to become the QB with the most losses.

Quarterbacks with losing records rarely make it to the Hall of Fame, but many believe Stafford is destined for Canton. However, fans aren’t convinced he deserves the honor, especially after Eli Manning, who also had a poor record as a starter, failed to get inducted this year. They argue that if Manning hasn’t earned a place in the Hall of Fame, Stafford shouldn’t either.

Fans don’t feel that Matthew Stafford should get into the NFL Hall of Fame

Stafford’s 122-122-1 record and his being on the verge of breaking Testaverde’s record for most losses as a QB made fans question his Hall of Fame credentials. They argued that Eli

Manning, who won two Super Bowls with the Giants, failed to get in, with a similarly poor record.

Manning’s record in the regular season stands at 117-117 in 234 starts. He was eligible for induction into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2025 and then in 2026 but failed to get in on both occasions. His place isn’t guaranteed.

Fans don’t believe that Stafford should be a lock for the HOF with such a poor record, while others stated that he doesn’t belong in the same conversation as Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees. They said,

“But he’s slam dunk hall of famer and Eli Manning isn’t…. right”

A user commented, Not even a winning record and dudes wanna put him in Rodgers talks”

Another said, That’s a record that could last a while, if Stafford loses 2 more. Cam Ward is still over 100 losses away.”

Can Stafford get that elusive Golden Jacket? Well, he can. His longevity and numbers speak for themselves. This is his 18th season in the league and certainly not his last. He still can sling the ball on the gridiron and is still one of the best QBs in the NFL.

He certainly has a much better Touchdown-to-interception record than Eli Manning. He has thrown 434 TDs to 202 interceptions, while Eli has 366 TDs to 244 interceptions.

Stafford has thrown for 66,310 yards in his career so far, which is 6th on the all-time list. Manning threw for 57,023 yards.

The UGA Alum is also a one-time NFL MVP and one-time Super Bowl winner. He is also the fastest player to reach 35,000 (126 games), 40,000 (147games), 45,000 (165 games), and 50,000 career passing yards (183 games-tied with Drew Brees).

While the position of quarterback is arguably most important on the gridiron, wins aren’t a QB-only stat. Stafford’s wins and losses should have less bearing on his individual performances and talent as a QB.
