UFC champion Islam Makhachev is hinting at retiring. The Russian MMA fighter posted on X, saying “My next fight is one of the last in my career”. This comes just months after Makhachev beat Ian Machado Garry to defend his welterweight title in August 2026.

The 35-year-old fighter is scheduled to fight either Carlos Prates and Michael Morales next. Talking about those fights, Makhachev had earlier said he wants to prove “who is the best” in the world. Makhachev is in a great point of his illustrious career, with recently extending his winning streak to 17. With that he has also passed UFC Hall of Famer Anderson Silva’s 16-consecutive fight mark, which he set from 2006 to 2013.

Makhachev said, “They say Prates is too dangerous for me and Morales is too good for me, So I want to face the best of them and prove to the world once again who is the best in the world.” Prates and Morales are scheduled to fight on January 30, 2027, in Canada. Makhachev aims to fight whoever wins that bout. According to BBC, Prates had won the last three of his fights by knockout, while Morales has won all 19 of his professional fights.
