Bayern Munich's Harry Kane celebrates after winning the men's Ballon d'Or award.
Harry Kane achieved the biggest individual honor of his career on Monday night. The captain of England has won the 2026 Ballon d'Or award and is now the first Englishman to have won the coveted award after 25 years. The Bayern Munich striker has put an end to the long wait of English football as the previous English winner of the Ballon d'Or was back in 2001, when Michael Owen claimed the honor. Kane is the fifth Englishman to win the award, following Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton and Kevin Keegan, who won it twice.

The achievement by Kane is another landmark moment in the career of an individual defined by goals, hard work and consistency. From his youth with Tottenham Hotspur to becoming one of the most feared strikers in Europe, Kane's rise to fame has been anything but ordinary. The Ballon d'Or voting period spans from August 2025 until the end of the World Cup in July. During this period, he scored 73 goals in 65 games, winning the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, German Supercup and also led England to their best FIFA World Cup finish in 60 years in third place, with six goals scored in the World Cup.

HARRY KANE ENDS ENGLAND'S 25-YEAR WAIT

The arduous efforts of Kane throughout the years to earn the highest individual prize in the sport have finally come to an end with a monumental success at the Ballon d'Or award. The Bayern Munich striker's journey to the award has been years in the making, with his remarkable goalscoring ability and consistency eventually earning him the recognition he had long deserved.

His success places him into a select club of legendary English soccer players. The last player from England to have won this cup was Owen back in 2001, making Kane's achievement all the more important to the history of soccer in England. For much of his career, Kane was regarded as one of the world's finest strikers without having the major team trophies to match his individual brilliance.

Kane's transfer to Bayern Munich in 2023 marked a major shift in the course of his career. Following years spent shouldering the attacking load for Tottenham, Kane found himself in a new setting where competing in Europe on a regular basis was expected of him.

The change barely hindered him. His capability of scoring from various positions, making plays for his teammates and doing well under pressure makes him a valuable player in Bayern's attack. Now, the Ballon d'Or adds another remarkable achievement to a career already filled with individual records.

HARRY KANE: FROM TOTTENHAM LEGEND TO ENGLAND'S ALL-TIME LEADING SCORER

The journey of Harry Kane towards international fame started from Tottenham Hotspur youth academy, where he gradually developed into one of the Premier League's most dependable goalscorers.

Once he had made his mark as an established figure in the first-team squad at Tottenham, Kane would become the main attraction of the team for nearly a decade, bagging several Golden Boots of the Premier League and ending up becoming the all-time top scorer for Spurs.

Kane scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for Tottenham while also surpassing Wayne Rooney's all-time goalscoring record for England. He is set to surpass Peter Shilton's record of 125 caps next month, provided that he remains fit.

His international career is no less outstanding. Kane was the highest goal scorer for England and had an integral part to play in England’s participation in major tournaments.

In the 2018 FIFA World Cup, he won the Golden Boot Award for being the highest goal-scorer at the tournament. Additionally, he contributed to the team’s efforts in reaching the finals of the Euro 2020 tournament and played an important role during the 2022 World Cup.

The 2026 World Cup provided yet another historic occasion for Kane who netted twice against DR Congo to reach 13 World Cup goals surpassing Pelé’s goal tally. Kane subsequently added another goal to finish with 14 World Cup goals across the 2018, 2022 and 2026 tournaments.

The move to Bayern Munich in 2023 marked yet another milestone where he got an opportunity to showcase his goal-scoring prowess in Germany’s Bundesliga. His record after joining Bayern is astonishing: 158 goals in 156 games.

Apart from all these numbers, it is important to mention that Kane's leadership, positioning, passing, and deadly finishing skills make him one of the best center forwards of his generation.

And after winning the Ballon d'Or Award, the amazing career path of Kane from the Spurs youth academy boy to one of the biggest soccer stars is completed.
