Four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson has reportedly made $180 million in 15 years: Here’s a look at his contract, salary and off-court earnings

Miami Heat forward, Klay Thompson, who previously played for the Golden State Warriors has amassed a large net worth during his 15-year long career. While a significant part of this net worth comes from his salaries from NBA clubs, a large portion can also be attributed to endorsements and sponsorships the player has signed over the years.

Thompson began his NBA career in the 2011-2012 season with the Warriors. During his 13 seasons for the team, Thompson was one half of the duo popularly known as the ‘Splash Brothers’, with Stephen Curry being the other half. Thompson has so far won the NBA championship four times, and has featured in the NBA All-Star team five times.

Thompson carried forward his family’s NBA legacy

Klay Thompson was no stranger to the NBA even before he started. His father Mychal Thompson played for the NBA in multiple teams from 1978 to 1992, and became an NBA champion twice. His elder brother, Mychel Thompson also played in the NBA, while his younger brother Trayce Thompson is an MLB player.

Thompson started playing basketball in high school, following which he played college basketball for three years with the Washington State Cougars. Thompson also went on to play for the US national team and won gold medals during both the 2014 FIBA World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.

Thompson’s estimated net worth is about $180 million

According to online outlet Celebrity Net Worth, Klay Thompson has garnered a $180 million net worth during his NBA career. Much of this comes from his previous and present contracts. According to data compiled by sport statistics website, Spotrac, Thompson’s first contract with the Warrior was worth over $9 million for four years, with a base salary of $2.5 million.

He signed an extension to the contract in 2015 worth $68.9 million for four years, with his average salary rising to $17.2 million. His next contract was a five year deal worth $189 million, for which he got an average salary of $37 million each year.

From 2024 to 2026 Thompson was signed to a $50 million three year contract, which was his last with the Warriors. In 2026, Klay Thompson signed a two year contract with the Miami Heat worth over $11 million. He will be paid $5.7 million each year of the contract. If an extension is not signed, the 36 year old becomes a free agent from 2028.

What do Thompson’s earnings off the court look like?

Despite his massive earnings from NBA salaries, a large portion of Thompson’s revenue comes from his off court deals. He has partnered with several brands including Waiakea Water, Bevel and NERF despite being out of the league due to injuries in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.

He earlier signed a 10-year deal with Chinese shoe brand, Anta, worth $80 million, according to Forbes. Thompson also served as a brand ambassador for Bodyarmor and Buffalo Wild Wings.

Among his off-court ventures is also the wellness and recovery firm, Just Live based in California. It was founded by several athletes including former soccer player Alex Morgan, former NASCAR driver and stunt performer Travis Pastrana and skateboarding legend Paul Rodriguez. He also started in the 2021 film ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ as the digital antagonist ‘Wet Fire’, adding to his revenue. However it is not known how much the star player was compensated for the appearance.
