Reggie McFadden cause of death: Stand-up comedy star dies at 57; here's what happened to him

Reggie McFadden, the stand-up comedian and actor popular for appearances on Def Comedy Jam, In Living Color and many other television programs, has died at 57. His sister, Bernice McFadden, confirmed his passing to The Hollywood Reporter, saying the U.S. State Department informed her that he died in Tanzania, where he had lived for 18 years.

Reggie McFadden, the popular stand-up comedian and actor who is remembered for his work on television and in movies, has passed away at the age of 57. McFadden became famous to audiences via his stand-up performances and appearances on popular comedy and sitcom programs.

What was Reggie McFadden's cause of death?

Now, there is currently no official confirmation regarding the cause of death for Reggie McFadden.

His sister, Bernice McFadden, confirmed his passing to The Hollywood Reporter. She stated that the U.S. State Department informed her that her brother had died in Tanzania, the country where he had resided for 18 years.


A Facebook post by writer, producer, comedian and radio host Art Garfield included an unverified account regarding McFadden's health.

Garfield also posted a screenshot of the last text McFadden had sent him in 2023. While remembering his longtime friend, he cited:

“I keep hearing about our comedian Reggie McFadden passing but who reported this and what happened?… Reg went MIA years ago to gold mine and hardly communicated… I got an inbox from him 3 years ago but that was it…Just got confirmation from @Kringle that spoke to his brother Chris that he caught pneumonia in Africa and refused treatment… sad… such a genuine good dude that happened to be very funny … known him from the beginning… bout 1990…R.I.P.”

The claim about pneumonia has not been officially confirmed as McFadden's reason for death.

His time on In Living Color

McFadden's television career extended beyond stand-up when he joined Keenen Ivory Wayans' sketch comedy series named, In Living Color. He appeared during the show's fifth season between 1993 and 1994, taking on various characters.

Around the same duration, McFadden made guest appearances on many sitcoms. His 1993 credits are Martin, Hangin' with Mr. Cooper and Coach. He then appeared on Moesha, Getting Personal and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

His comedy profession also included hosting his own Comedy Central special and regularly performing at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Movies and final screen appearance

McFadden also worked in films during his acting career. His credits included a small role in the original Jacob's Ladder, along with supporting parts in The Inkwell, Little Nicky and Road Kings. His listed movie work also included Minor Adjustments.

His final credited screen appearance happened in the 2005 comedy short National Lampoon Presents Tooned-Up, where he offered a voice performance. That year also signified his final televised stand-up appearance, which came on Last Call with Carson Daly.

McFadden includes his sisters Bernice McFadden and Misty, his sons Jaron and Myles, his mother Vivian, and his brother Kris.

Although his passing has been confirmed by his sister, details regarding the cause of passing have not been publicly revealed.
