Adrian Grenier bought 46 acres in Texas: A growing interest in sustainable living has encouraged some people to think again about their connection with food, energy and the world. For actor and director Adrian Grenier, that change meant establishing a rural home where farming, environmental responsibility and family life could join together.

In 2020, the Entourage icon bought 46 acres in Bastrop, Texas, to create Kintsugi Ranch, almost 45 minutes from Austin, as per People. The building became the setting for his attempts to build a sustainable lifestyle that includes solar power, farming and a wildlife sanctuary.

Why Adrian Grenier Chose Texas

Grenier initially connected with Austin through its South by Southwest festival, he said to People. Although he had long been interested in sustainability, he wished to move beyond supporting the idea and make it part of his daily life.

Speaking on the Like a Farmer podcast with Pat Spinosa, Grenier described that working the land was harder than anything he had done before, but also deeply satisfying.

Farming, Solar Power and Learning From Nature

At Kintsugi Ranch, Grenier has been learning practical skills connected with sustainable farming such as tractor work, earthwork and permaculture. He has also concentrated on growing food and knowing how to create conditions in which plants and soil ecosystems can thrive.

One of his primary objectives is to take greater responsibility for where his family's food arrives from.

Solar power is another part of the ranch's sustainable goal. Together, renewable energy and farming mirrors his aim of putting environmental values into practice rather than leaving them as abstract ideals.

A Home Shared With Animals and Wildlife

The ranch is also home to animals which includes a white donkey named Disco and a pig named Tallulah. Grenier's activities extend to beekeeping, herbs, vegetables and a wildlife sanctuary, making the property more than a conventional rural home.

For him, however, sustainable living is not just about managing land independently. He believes that community is important to making a homestead lifestyle practical in the long term.

Building a Future for His Family

Grenier viewed the ranch as an investment in his family's future, mainly his son's. He described that parenthood has influenced his wish to create a healthier environment and take responsibility for the choices available to the next generation.

Six years after buying his 46-acre property, Grenier's vision remains to centre on sustainable farming, solar power, wildlife and community. For him, Kintsugi Ranch features an ongoing commitment to learning from nature and creating a future shaped by his values.
