What makes this Cleveland home look like a castle?
Located at 3860 W. 44th St., the 2,378-square foot property looks like a small medieval castle than a typical American home. The stone exterior, turret, battlement wall and arched entrance give it an appearance. The house sits behind a rock garden. Landscaped front area, slightly set back from the street. That makes its unusual design even more noticeable among the traditional homes nearby.Zillow Gone Wild featured the property on Instagram, where its photos quickly attracted attention. “Per the listing, this is a ‘truly one-of-a-kind opportunity to own your own castle in Cleveland’ Yes,” reads the Zillow Gone Wild caption.
Listed by Kristin Rogers of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, the three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home underwent a complete renovation in 2024. The work reportedly preserved its original character and architectural details. It is also being sold fully furnished. The asking price was initially $575,000 but has since dropped to $550,000.
Inside the 1924 stone castle
The castle-like appearance continues inside. A large staircase and wide plank hardwood floors give the home an old-fashioned feel, while a grand stone fireplace takes center stage in the living room. The listing describes it as “the perfect size to gather with family and friends.”The kitchen combines older features with modern updates. Its original panelled walls and vintage leaded glass windows remain, alongside updated countertops, lighting and stainless steel appliances. An arched opening connects it to a bright dining room.
There is a den with raised panel wood walls and built in storage upstairs. The primary bedroom has cathedral ceilings and a tiled walk-in shower. Another bedroom has drawn particular attention. It features dark wood ceilings, a stone wall and a passageway leading into the turret room, giving the space an unusual castle-like touch.
The stained-glass window that got Instagram talking
One of the home's most discussed features is a colorful stained-glass window in the bedroom. It depicts Jesus Christ meeting a Samaritan woman at a well, a scene often seen in medieval religious art. The design prompted plenty of jokes from Zillow Gone Wild followers.“Not the Keanu-Jesus stained glass in the bedroom ,” one commenter wrote. Another suggested, “Replace the stained glass scene with a Monty Python Black Knight scene, and I’ll take it.” Someone else replied, “None shall pass!” The stone exterior also inspired a local joke. “For the record, that’s not made of Ohio granite, it’s Cleveland rocks,” one commenter wrote. Others simply loved the home's character. “As an art historian, I feel obligated to own this,” one person commented. “My bank account does not agree, though.”
The property also has a basement, back porch, patio and two car garage. It is near Interstate 71 and a short drive from the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and downtown Cleveland. The information is taken from a report by WOWK 13 News.
