A jet trip to Pennsylvania
In October 2025, Patel traveled by an FBI aircraft to State College in Pennsylvania, where Wilkins performed the national anthem at a Real American Freestyle wrestling event. The incident drew scrutiny from ethics watchdogs and former FBI officials, who questioned whether taxpayers' money was being used for personal visits. Patel defended the trip, saying that FBI directors are often required to use government aircraft for security reasons. FBI officials stated that Patel reimburses the government for non-official travels.
FBI security for Wilkins
Another controversy erupted in November 2025, when Wilkins received FBI security cover, including from members of an FBI SWAT team. The move raised eyebrows at the time as Wilkins was neither a government official, nor was she married to Patel. At the time, FBI officials said the protection was granted after the FBI chief's girlfriend received hundreds of death threats.
Lawsuit against MS NOW
In December 2025, MS NOW reported that Patel called the lead agent on Wilkins' security team and yelled at him to drive one of her friends home after a night of partying in Nashville. But an FBI spokesperson rejected the report, saying at the time: "This is made up and did not happen." Wilkins called the claims false and filed a lawsuit in Tennessee against MS NOW over the report, seeking over $75,000 in damages. "This false portrayal is highly offensive to Ms. Wilkins, and would be to any reasonable person in her situation," her lawyers said in the complaint.
The 'honeypot' claims
Wilkins has been a target of online conspiracy theories claiming that she is an Israeli intelligence operative or "honeypot", trying to compromise Patel. No credible evidence backing the allegations was ever put forth. Wilkins rubbished the claims and filed defamation lawsuits against several commentators who spread the rumor.
