Christiane Amanpour, a longtime CNN anchor, is set to leave the network after more than four decades. She started her stint with CNN as an entry-level assistant. In her 43-year-long career, she covered war zones and hot spots and went on to become one of the most visible correspondents and anchors on TV.

Amanpour, a British-Iranian journalist, is currently serving as the network’s chief international anchor. She will be leaving CNN in June 2027. Her daily shows on CNN and PBS will end in December 2026, and prior to stepping down from her role, she will continue a weekly CNN show through May 2027 and leave the network the following month.

In a statement on Monday (October 19, 2026), Amanpour said that she is looking forward to “interesting new projects down the line,” as quoted by AP. It is pertinent to mention that she did not give a reason for her departure. She also did not specifically mention changes at her network.

In a statement shared with CNN, the 68-year-old veteran journalist said that she will also end her PBS show, “Amanpour & Co,” at the end of the year. She will continue her podcast, “The Ex Files,” with her ex-husband, Jamie Rubin, a former U.S. diplomat.

“After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!” Amanpour said. She further stated that she would “always be rooting for CNN and maintaining its history of independent journalism. Remember: Always be truthful, not neutral.”
