Jeff Bezos bought three luxury mansions on Indian Creek Island in Miami, an exclusive residential enclave known as the 'Billionaire Bunker.'

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos spent a reported $234 million on three properties on Indian Creek Island near Miami, Florida. The exclusive residential community, also known as the 'Billionaire Bunker,' has become a major part of his property portfolio since he announced plans to move to Miami in 2023.

Bezos bought the first two properties in 2023 for $68 million and $79 million, respectively. In 2024, he purchased a third waterfront mansion for $87 million, according to real estate reports. His purchases gave him three properties in one of the most exclusive residential areas in the US.

Why did he move to Miami?

Bezos announced in November 2023 that he planned to move to Miami as this would bring him closer to his parents and operations of his space company, Blue Origin, in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

He had lived in the Seattle area for nearly three decades, having founded Amazon there in 1994. His move to Florida also drew attention because the state does not levy an individual income tax. However, Bezos cited family and work reasons when announcing the decision.

What is the 'Billionaire Bunker'?

Indian Creek Island is a man-made barrier island in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The approximately 300-acre island is known for its large waterfront homes, limited residential properties and security.

The island has its own police department and a gated bridge connecting it to the mainland.

Other prominent people associated with the island include Carl Icahn, for NFL quarterback Tom Brady, and Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. The community is also home to the Indian Creek Country Club, although owning a house on the island does not automatically provide membership.

Is he planning to combine the properties?

Reports have said Bezos plans to demolish the two neighbouring homes he bought in 2023 and develop a larger estate on the combined plots. The plan would allow him to create a single compound across the adjoining waterfront properties.

His third mansion, bought in 2024, has been reported as a place where he could stay while work takes place on the other two properties. The precise final design and timeline for the proposed estate have not been publicly confirmed.

Bezos made his fortune by founding Amazon, which began as an online bookstore in 1994 before expanding into e-commerce, cloud computing and other businesses. According to Forbes, his real time net worth is $378.3 billion. The reported $234 million spent on Indian Creek properties shows only a small fraction of his massive wealth.
