Social Security and SSI October payment schedule: Why some recipients will get 3 deposits and when will they be paid

Some Social Security beneficiaries will receive three payments in October because of a change in the Supplemental Security Income payment schedule. So the three deposits are for people who receive both SSI and Social Security benefits, such as retirement/ disability/ survivor benefits.

The third payment is not a bonus or an increase in benefits. It is the November SSI payment, which will arrive early because Nov. 1 falls on a Sunday. As a result, eligible recipients will receive two SSI payments and one Social Security payment during October.

Who qualifies for three Social Security payments in October

People who receive both SSI and Social Security benefits are the main group eligible to receive three payments this month.


Their October payment schedule includes an SSI deposit on October 1. A Social Security payment on October 2. And another SSI deposit on October 30. The last payment is intended for November, even though it arrives in October.

People who receive only Social Security retirement, disability or survivor benefits will not receive three payments under this schedule. Their payments will follow the usual calendar for their benefit category.

Why Social Security & SSI payments are arriving on different dates

SSI payments are issued on the first day of each month. But when that date falls on weekend or federal holiday, the payment is moved to the previous business day.

This year, November 1 is on Sunday. So the November SSI payment will therefore be sent on Friday, October 30, rather than on the first day of November.

This creates an unusual pattern for people who receive both programs. They get their regular October SSI payment at the beginning of the month, their Social Security benefit the following day and their November SSI payment at the end of October.

The early deposit does not mean recipients are receiving an additional month of SSI benefits. It changes when the November payment arrives, not the number of monthly benefits they are entitled to.

October 2026 Social Security payment dates

The October calendar includes several payment dates, depending on the type of benefit a person receives and, for many Social Security recipients, their date of birth.

October 1: October SSI payments

October 2: Social Security payments for people who began receiving benefits before May 1997. And for beneficiaries who receive both Social Security and SSI

October 14: Social Security payments for beneficiaries born between the first and 10th of a month

October 21: Social Security payments for beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th of a month

October 28: Social Security payments for beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st of a month

October 30: November SSI payments, issued early because Nov. 1 falls on a Sunday

The Wednesday schedule applies to Social Security retirement, disability and survivor benefits. For people receiving benefits based on another person’s work record, the payment date is determined by that person’s birth date.

How much is the early November SSI payment

The November SSI payment scheduled for Oct. 30 can be worth up to $994 for eligible individual recipients. The amount a person receives depends on their circumstances and eligibility.

SSI is a separate program from Social Security retirement, survivor and disability benefits. It provides payments to eligible people with limited income and resources, including qualifying older adults and people with disabilities.

The three-payment pattern results from the regular October SSI payment, the Social Security payment for eligible beneficiaries and the early November SSI deposit.

When will recipients get their next SSI payment

Recipients who receive the November SSI payment early on Oct. 30 should plan for their next SSI deposit on Dec. 1. There will not be another SSI payment at the beginning of November because that month’s payment will already have been issued.

So the three deposits in October do not mean three months of benefits. The schedule simply places the November SSI payment in the last two days of October, while the regular October payments remain on their scheduled dates.
