If the refund for your income tax return (ITR) for FY 2021-22 or AY 2022-23 has been rejected, you can raise a refund re-issue request with the income tax department.

You can only raise a refund re-issue request on the income tax e-filing portal if there is a failure of credit of refund by the income tax department after processing your ITR.

You cannot raise a refund re-issue request unless the reason for rejection is reflected.

Here are the steps you need to follow to raise a refund re-issue request.

a) Go to www.incometax.gov.in and log in to your account using your credentials.

b) Go to 'services' tab and select the 'refund re-issue' option.

c) A new page will open which will appear. Click on the 'create re-issue request' option.

d) Select the ITR for which a refund reissue request must be raised and click on the 'continue' option.

e) In the next step, you need to select the bank account in which you want to receive the income tax refund. You have an option to receive the tax refund in a different bank account. Once the bank is selected, click on 'proceed to verification'.

Do keep in mind that the bank account must be pre-validated to receive a refund.

f) Once the bank account is verified, then your refund re-issue request will be submitted. E-verification can be done using Aadhaar OTP, EVC enabled with the bank and/or demat account.

You will also receive a confirmation message of the re-issuing refund request on the email ID and mobile number registered with the income tax e-filing portal.

Keep a note of the transaction ID for future reference.
