Once you have filed and verified your income tax return (ITR), the income tax department will start processing your tax return. During processing, the income tax department will check if there are any discrepancies between the income declared in your ITR with the information available with them. Once the ITR is processed, the tax department will send an intimation notice under section 143 (1) of the Income-tax Act, 1961.
The intimation notice informs the individual if the tax department has accepted the income details filed in the ITR or if there is any tax refund due or if there is any additional tax demand.
Thus, this makes it important for an individual to check the status of your income tax return status. Usually, after verification, the status of your ITR will show as successfully verified. And after the ITR is processed, the status will reflect as ITR processed.
Here are two to check the status of your verified ITR.
Using acknowledgement number without login credentials
On the homepage of the income tax department's new e-filing website, under the 'Quick Links' option, you'll find the option to check the Income Tax Return (ITR) Status. Once you click the ITR Status option, you'll be redirected to a new page where you need to fill out your ITR acknowledgement number and the captcha code. After you fill out your details and submit, the status will be displayed on your screen.
Using login credentials
Login to the e-filing website and on the dashboard you'll see the status of your income tax return.

Another way to check is by checking 'View filed Returns' under 'e-file' tab. Once the 'View filed Returns' option is selected, then select the assessment year for which you want to see the status of ITR. The assessment year is the year followed by the financial year. For FY 2022-23, the assessment year is 2023-24.
If the ITR for particular year is processed, then status will be shown as 'ITR Processed'. On the other hand, if the ITR is not processed then 'Successfully e-verified' will be shown as status till the time tax department processes your ITR.
