SBI Card to charge 1% fee on these transactions

From December 1, 2026, SBI Card credit card users will have to pay additional charges on certain high-value transportation and fuel transactions. SBI credit cardholders who regularly make large transportation transactions or buy fuel at petrol pumps need to check the additional charges they are set to pay soon.

The revised SBI Card changes on transportation and fuel transactions will take effect from December 1, 2026, according to a notice dated October 27, 2026, available on the SBI Card website. Here are the new charges applicable from December 1 on high-value transportation transactions made through SBI credit cards.

1% fee on transportation transactions above Rs 30,000

Under the revised fee structure, a 1% fee will apply to every transportation transaction exceeding Rs 30,000.

As per a notice on the SBI Card website, “W.e.f. December 1, 2026, a fee of 1% of the transaction amount will be applicable on every transportation transaction (identified under MCCs 4111, 4784, 4131) exceeding Rs.30,000.”

For illustration purposes, if a SBI credit card user makes a transportation transaction of Rs 35,000, a 1% fee would amount to Rs 350.

SBI credit card users will also have to watch their total fuel spending during each billing cycle. If the combined value of fuel transactions made through an SBI credit card in a billing cycle exceeds Rs 50,000, a 1% fee will be charged on the total fuel spend.

“W.e.f. December 1, 2026, if the total amount of all fuel transactions (identified under MCCs 5172, 5541, 5542, 5983) made in a billing cycle exceeds Rs.50,000, a fee of 1% will be charged on the total fuel spends,” as per the SBI Card website.
