Many hotels are implementing Covid safety measures in adherence with the guidelines of the World Health Organisation, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and the respective governments. They are executing these via in-house resources, launching their own brand’s cleanliness initiatives, or employing external agencies to do so. Here are some of the safety measures and new norms you are likely to and should come across in hotel chains and resorts. You may find that most of them having initiated their own safety protocols.

All contact details of customers will be cross-checked. Thermal screening will be conducted too.

Digital or contactless along with advance processing of check-in and check-out is being used. All payments and transactions will be cashless. Masks, gloves and sanitizer pouches or kits will be given too.

Common areas like lobby, elevator, coffee shop
There should be hand sanitisation stations at areas that are prone to high touch and usage. Frequency of disinfectant spraying is higher. Voice-operated elevators are another safety measure.

Rooms
Dining in one the hotel restaurant or hall has been replaced by ordering in meals via phone or digitally. Family activities like board games, more stuff to read, free wi-fi etc. may be provided in the rooms. Customers can get the option of avoiding housekeeping/cleaning till duration of stay. Disinfectant wipes will be provided.

Recreational areas
Spa, swimming pool, gym, fun zones will be inaccessible due to being shut. Specific outdoor activities with limited participants will be permitted.

Restaurants, lounges
Digital, QR code or one-time use menus instead of the physical booklets you normally get. Before you get seated, your table will be disinfected heavily if it has been used before. Buffet services are eliminated. In case of buffet, self-service replaced by staff-manned counters. As per social distancing, tables are now spread out further away from each other. Where dining in restaurants is allowed, you may have to wait longer to get a table because there are limits on the number of people in the dining area at a particular time.
