Indians are losing more money to Internet fraud than those in other Asian countries, reveals a Telenor survey.

Indians are losing more money to Internet fraud than those in other Asian countries, reveals a Telenor survey.

* 36% Indians cheated online, which accounts to Rs 8.19 lakh average financial loss per person from Internet scams, compared with Rs 6.81 lakh in Asia.
* 57% Respondents know a friend or family member who has been a victim of online fraud.

Most common internet scams
* 39% Work-from home scams
* 25% Lottery scams
* 17% Fake bank e-mails
* 14% Respondents have been victims of identity theft.
* While 7 in 10 Of the surveyed scam victims have lost money, 8 in 10 respondents are confident they can protect themselves from online scams.
* 85% Internet users are familiar with the term ‘Internet scam’ and feel open to online threats.
