In 2016, out of the 21 vacation days available, the average working Indian could only make use of 15, says an Expedia survey. Here is why.

71% of Indian respondents cancelled or postponed their vacation plans because of work.
28% felt it would be a better idea to encash their unused leave.
21% thought not taking a vacation would be perceived positively by manager at work.

While work schedule is the main reason for not going on leave, 14% Indians also said they cannot afford to take holidays.

Spouses are the favourite travel buddies for Indians: about 73% holiday with the spouse, followed by 59% with children, 53% with friends, 26% with colleagues and 9% with tour groups.

For an additional day of vacation
47% of Indians are ready to give up social media and television for a week.
30% would give up internet for a week.
27% can give up contact with their besties for a week.
77% said exploring some place new makes them happiest during a vacation.
50% said they are happy to disconnect with work.
