Check your SBI FASTag balance via SMS

Those who have State Bank of India (SBI) FASTags can now check their balance by sending SMS. "Dear SBI FASTag Customer, send an SMS to 7208820019 from your registered mobile number to quickly know your SBI FASTag balance," stated a tweet from SBI on September 10, 2022.

According to the tweet, the SBI FASTag customer, from their registered mobile number, must send the SMS, FTBAL, for a single vehicle, to 7208820019.

What is a FASTag?
FASTags was made mandatory for all vehicles, private and commercial, from January 15, 2020. "The FASTag device that employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for making toll payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to it. It is affixed on the windscreen of your vehicle and enables you to drive through toll plazas, without stopping for cash transactions. The tag can be purchased from Tag issuers and if it is linked to the prepaid account, then you need to recharge/ top up the tag as per your requirement," states the SBI FAStag website.

According to SBI press release issued in March 2022, “Vehicle owners can contact customer care at 1800 11 0018 and the executives will guide them to their nearest PoS location (Tag issuers). The SBI Fastag is available through tag issuers (POS locations and e-commerce websites). If it's connected to a prepaid account, you will need to recharge or top up the tag as needed. If your tag is linked to your SBI bank account, however, you won't need to load money into a prepaid wallet separately."

One would need an application for SBI FASTag to the bank. Registration Certificate (RC) of the vehicle and a photograph of the vehicle owner along with his ID and address proof is also required.
