American Express launches a new drive in its reward multiplier and membership programs for limited period; check the details

American Express (AMEX) has announced new limited time offers under its Rewards Multiplier and Member Get Member (MGM) program for its credit card holders. The rewards multiplier program will run from January 24, 2025, and end on January 28, 2025, including both days. The MGM program has already started on January 16, 2025, and will end on February 27, 2025.

AMEX Member Get Member (MGM) program

The MGM offer is applicable from January 16, 2025, to February 27, 2025, both days inclusive. In this offer when an existing AMEX card holder refers another individual to apply for an AMEX card, both referred and referee receive rewards points as per a specified table.

For example, if you refer your friend to apply for American Express Gold Card then you will get Additional 4,000 membership rewards points on approval of your friend’s card. Referred person will get additional 2,000 Membership Rewards Points upon spending Rs 5,000 in the first 90 days of getting the card membership.

Details of the AMEX rewards multiplier program

For purchases made between January 24 and January 28, 2025, all eligible American Express cards featuring the Reward Multiplier benefit will earn 25 membership rewards points per Rs 100 spent.

American Express is offering its cardmembers the opportunity to earn up to 5X bonus points through the Reward Multiplier when shopping from over 65 brands, including Apple, Nykaa, Tanishq, Flipkart, MakeMyTrip, and more.

During this promotional period, the standard Reward Multiplier benefits of 5X Membership Rewards points for American Express Platinum Card and American Express Gold Card, and 2X Membership Rewards points for the American Express Membership Rewards Credit Card and other eligible American Express Proprietary Cards will be replaced with the accelerated offer of 25 membership rewards points per Rs 100 spent.

It must be noted that purchases of e-vouchers will not qualify for the 25 points per INR 100 spent offer.

Which AMEX are eligible for accelerated membership reward points

With the Reward Multiplier, American Express cardmembers can earn up to 25,000 bonus Membership Rewards points per month. Bonus points will be credited within 120 days of the transaction.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to earn extra points with reward multiplier in AMEX:

Step 1: Select a merchant of your choice and click on “Shop Now”. No account login is required.

Step 2: Fill out a few simple details and click on ''Submit''. Make sure your shopping cart is empty on the Merchant site.

Step 3: You can now add items to your cart once you are on the merchant site.

Step 4: Proceed to check out with the same American Express Card used for validation in step 2.

Do Amex points expire?

Membership Rewards points have no expiration date. However, points may be forfeited as described in the program Terms and Conditions.

AMEX Member Get Member (MGM) program terms and conditions

According to American Express website here are some terms and conditions of the Member Get Member program:

• "MGMer(s)" for the purpose of this program shall mean an existing Cardmember, who uses the online platform of American Express® Banking Corp (AEBC) MGM Program and has referred a MGMee for availing of American Express Card(s) offered by AEBC.
• "MGMee(s)", for the purposes of this offer shall be the individual(s) who has/have been referred for the American Express Card(s) by the MGMer. MGMee(s) can be a new to Bank customer as well as an existing American Express Cardmember.
• A person who already holds a Card issued by AEBC introducing himself / herself using this program is prohibited in this program.
• This offer is valid from 16 January 2025 – 27 February 2025, including both days, from the time of offer going live.
• MGMer and MGMee are both eligible to earn additional Membership
• Rewards® Points as part of the limited time offer, only if MGMee’s Card application is received on or before 27 February 2025 and approved thereafter including successful completion of KYC
• Credit of additional Membership Rewards® Points to a successful MGMee will be done (if eligible, as per above table) subject to MGMee spending INR 5,000 within 90 days of Card approval and on payment of annual fees. Credit of Membership

Would AMEX bonus membership rewards points be awarded on insurance fees?

According to the AMEX website as of January 24, 2025, “Bonus MR Points would not be awarded on any taxes, delivery charges, insurance fees, conversion fees, customs fee or any other fees paid during procurement of such goods / services from the merchant.”
