OCI stands for Overseas Citizenship of India. It is an immigration status that allows a foreign citizen of Indian origin to live and work indefinitely in India.

Eligibility criteria to get an OCI Card
A foreign national who is eligible to become an Indian Citizen on or at any given time post-1950. Any person who belonged to a territory which became part of India after 1947 is eligible to register as an Overseas Citizen of India. A minor of such parents is also provided with this eligibility.

Which documents are required for re-issuance of an OCI Card?
The following documents are needed for re-issuance of an OCI Card depending on the service requested:
• New passport issued:
– Copy of OCI Card
– Copy of the new passport
– Copy of old passport (if available)
• Loss of OCI Card:
– Copy of the police complaint lodged (if applicable)
– If the complaint is in a foreign language, an authorized translation is needed
• Change of personal particulars:
– Copies of documents supporting the requested changes (like name, address, occupation)
– Address proof: Electricity bill / phone bill, undertaking letter, or rent/lease agreement.

All documents must be uploaded online through the OCI Miscellaneous Services portal
No submission of hard copies is required except for originals for verification at the Indian Mission/Post/FRRO
Documents uploaded must be clear and legible
Personal interviews are only required for loss/damage cases
Fees are applicable only for mandatory re-issuance (after age 20) or loss/damage cases. Other updates are free of cost

When can you apply for online re-issuance of OCI Cards?
Applications can be submitted online for re-issuance of OCI Cards in the event of following contingencies:-
(a) Issuance of new passport after completing 20 years of age
(b) Change of personal particulars viz. nationality etc
(c) Loss/damage of OCI registration certificate
(d) Filling of wrong personal particulars while submitting online application viz. name, father's name, date of birth etc.
(e) Change of address/occupation of the OCI Cardholder.
