Railways revises rules for Divyangjan
Indian Railways has allowed Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) holding a valid Unique Disability ID (UDID) identification card to travel in special unreserved Divyangjan coaches in Mail and Express trains.
PwDs with valid UDID cards
The Railways clarified that persons with disabilities who hold valid UDID cards issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities will be treated as bona fide passengers when travelling in designated compartments meant for Divyangjan passengers.The facility also extends to PwDs who are eligible for concessional railway fares and carry valid identification issued under Railway rules.
Strict action against unauthorised passengers
Indian Railways has emphasised that strict action will be taken against unauthorised passengers found travelling in coaches reserved for Divyangjan passengers. Such action will be taken under provisions of the Railway Act, 1989.
Divyangjan card helps avail concessions
Railways also highlighted the importance of the Divyangjan Card, also known as E-Ticketing Photo Identity Card (EPICS). This identity card enables persons with disabilities to avail concessions on train travel, provided they have the required disability or concession certificate.How to add person with disability passenger in the master list of passengers
Step 1: Login using IRCTC username and passwordStep 2: Visit add/modify master list link available under the My Profile section of the My Account menu
Step 3: Select the person with the disability/escort radio button from the Passenger Type option
Step 4: Select the person with disability radio button from the travel type and fill details of a passenger like their name, date of birth and the concession card No, ID card valid up to date, etc.
Step 5: Click on the Submit button to save information in the Master List.
All the passengers added in the master list module will be displayed under the passenger list option.
How person with disability can get concession on IRCTC’s e-ticketing website?
As per Indian Railway Rules, concession in fare is admissible to persons with disability passengers booking their tickets on the IRCTC eTicketing website.Step 1: Login using IRCTC username and password
Step 2: After login, provide journey details and select the person with disability concession check box on the home page to proceed booking with the Person with Disability concession. A pop up message shall be displayed just for confirmation, click Ok to continue booking.
Step 3: Click on the Search button and select the desired train on the next page to proceed the booking.
Step 5: You will be redirected to the passenger input page, here you can enter the person with disability passenger details manually or the same can be fetched from Saved Passenger List · created at the Add/Modify Master list section.
Step 6: After filling details, a review-booking page will appear. Here, check the details carefully and click on the Continue button to move to the payment page.
At the payment page, select the payment option of your choice. Payment options are available at the center left part of the page. Click on the Pay Now button of the selected payment option, you will be redirected to the bank page.
After successful payment at the bank page, the booking confirmation page displays passenger and journey details.
