Unified Pension Scheme: Over 25,000 retired central government employees eligible for additional pension benefits

Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) is an option within the National Pension System (NPS) that provides additional benefits for Central Government retirees.

The government responded in Parliament that as per eligibility criteria, there are 25,756 retired central government subscribers eligible to receive additional benefits under the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS).

The government responded to a question on the number of claims received in UPS that as of 20th July, 2025, 7,253 claims have been received out of which 4,978 claims have been processed for payment of benefits under UPS.

The government replied to a question on whether the ministry has plans to extend similar benefits to other pension schemes or sectors in the near future and said the UPS has been introduced as an option under the National Pension System (NPS) for the employees of the Central Government who are covered under the NPS. There is no proposal under consideration to extend such benefits to other pension schemes or sectors.
