Punjab National Bank (PNB) has asked its customers to update their Know Your Customer (KYC) information in their bank accounts before August 8, 2025, to ensure the smooth functioning of their bank accounts. This KYC update is in accordance with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) guidelines, as per a PNB press release.

What is KYC?
According to the RBI website, “KYC stands for "Know Your Customer’. It refers to the method by which financial organisations check their customers' identities. KYC is crucial process as it helps to avoid unlawful actions such as money laundering and terrorist financing, while also protecting both the firm and the client.”

Who should update KYC in PNB accounts?
The last date of August 8, 2025, to update their KYC applies to those customers whose accounts have KYC updation pending as of 30.06.2025.

Documents required to update KYC
As part of the KYC compliance exercise, PNB customers are requested to provide updated information. This includes proofs like identity proof, address proof, recent photo, PAN/Form 60, income proof, mobile number (if not available) or any other KYC information at any branch.

What will happen if KYC is not updated?
If KYC information is not updated within the allotted time, bank account activity may be restricted. This includes no access to the net banking facility, withdrawals from bank accounts etc.
