The Department of Posts (DoP) has revisedSpeed Post (document) charges and included new services like online booking, real-time tracking, and OTP-based delivery. The Ministry of Communications has announced in a press release that the updated pricing would come into effect from October 1, 2025.

The Ministry has said that the new features are aimed at enhancing reliability, security, and customer convenience. These features are as follows-
* OTP-based secure delivery
* Online payment facility
* SMS-based delivery notifications
* Convenient online booking services
* Real time delivery updates
* Registration facility for users
* “The revised tariff will come into effect from October 1, 2025,” the Ministry said in the release.

Under this service, the item will be delivered to the addressee only upon the successful confirmation of the OTP shared with the delivery staff.

For availing the value-added service of the ‘One-Time Password (OTP) Delivery’, there will be a fee of Rs 5/-per Speed Post item plus applicable GST.

What is the registration service of Speed Post and what is its charge?
Customers can also send their Speed Post delivery through the registration service. By availing this service, both documents and parcels can be sent to the addressee through a secure delivery.

The value-added service of Registration can be availed to deliver an item only to the addressee or a person duly authorised by the addressee. A fee of Rs 5/-per Speed Post item plus applicable GST will be charged from a customer.

A 10% Speed Post tariff discount will be offered to students, while new bulk customers will be eligible for a special discount of 5%, the Ministry said.

* Postal charges vary depending on the weight of the article and the distance it takes to travel. For items weighing up to 50 grams, the postage rate is Rs 19 for local delivery, and Rs 47 for all other distance slabs–up to 200 kms, 201 to 500 kms, 501 to 1,000 kms, 1,001 to 2,000 kms, and above 2,000 kms.

* For articles weighing 51 grams to 250 grams, the rate is Rs 24 for local deliveries, Rs 59 for distances up to 200 kms, Rs 63 for 201 to 500 kms, Rs 68 for 501 to 1,000 kms, Rs 72 for 1,001 to 2,000 kms, and Rs 77 for above 2,000 kms.

* If the weight is between 251 grams and 500 grams, the applicable charge is Rs 28 for local delivery, Rs 70 for up to 200 kms, Rs 75 for 201 to 500 kms, Rs 82 for 501 to 1,000 kms, Rs 86 for 1,001 to 2,000 kms, and Rs 93 for above 2,000 kms.
