SBI to introduce IMPS service charges for online transactions above Rs 25,000: Check how much you need to pay soon

SBI IMPS service charges: State Bank of India will introduce service charges on online IMPS transactions exceeding Rs 25,000. This change takes effect on February 15, 2026. Previously, all online IMPS transactions up to Rs 5 lakh were free.

SBI to introduce IMPS charges on online transactions

Most State Bank of India (SBI) online IMPS transactions won’t be free anymore as the lender is set to apply service charges on transactions above Rs 25,000. With this change, the PSU bank is set to replace its policy where all of its online Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) transactions, up to Rs 5 lakh, were free. Rates of service charges for all SBI branch channel transactions, however, will remain the same.

Revised SBI online IMPS servicer charges will come into effect from February 15, 2026, as per a statement from SBI.
IMPS can be used for fund transfer using a combination of either the beneficiary account number and IFSC or the mobile number and MMID. An IMPS transfer can be done through SBI internet banking, mobile banking, ATM, branch, BC channel, SMS and IVR services.


On which online IMPS transactions will SBI apply service charge?

Service charges will be applicable to online SBI IMPS transactions of Rs 25,000 to Rs 5 lakh.For online SBI IMPS transactions above Rs 25,000 and up to Rs 1 lakh, the service charge levied will be Rs 2 plus GST.


SBI online IMPS transactions exceeding Rs 1 lakh and going up to Rs 2 lakh will now attract a fee of Rs 6 plus GST.
Similarly, for amounts above Rs 2 lakh and up to Rs 5 lakh, online IMPS transaction service charges will be Rs 10 plus GST.

Offline transactions service charges

The service charges of branch level IMPS transactions remain the same as before. Branch channel IMPS transactions up to Rs 1,000 are free. For transactions above Rs 1,000 up to Rs 100,000, the service charge is Rs 4 plus GST.

SBI will charge Rs 12 plus GST on branch channel IMPS transactions above Rs 1 lakh up to Rs 2 lakh. For transactions above Rs 2 lakh up to Rs 5 lakh, the transaction charge will be Rs 20 plus GST.

What is the maximum IMPS transaction limit per day?

You can transfer up to Rs 5 lakhs through IMPS in a day. However, banks may have different limits set as per their own policies.


Can I stop/cancel an IMPS transaction once approved at my end?

No, IMPS is an immediate fund transfer service, once approved, the payment request cannot be stopped or cancelled. For any grievances, you can reach out to your bank immediately by visiting the nearest branch or calling on the registered helpline number.

How SBI customers can send money through IMPS online

Step 1: Log on to 'onlinesbi.sbi.bank.in'
Step 2: Visit the 'Profile' section and click on Manage Beneficiary.
Step 3: Select 'IMPS Beneficiary'
Step 4: Add details related to the beneficiary like, the beneficiary’s name, MMID number, mobile number and the fund transfer limit through IMPS.
Approve the beneficiary using OTP (one time password) received on your registered mobile number.

How SBI customers can send money through IMPS using SBI YONO

Step 1: Log on to the YONO Mobile app
Step 2: Go to YONO Pay.
Step 3: Go to Bank Transfer to own/other account
d. Click on pay a new beneficiary
Step 4: Enter the INB Profile password
Step 5: Select pay using the beneficiary's mobile number
Step 6: Enter details like the beneficiary name, mobile number, MMID and the maximum transaction limit.
Step 7: Enter amount details for transfer to new beneficiary.

Approve the transaction by using OTP (one time password) received on your registered mobile number. The beneficiary is added automatically after the successful transaction.
