Will SBI, other banks be closed at Sep 11 strike?


Bank customers may need to plan their important transactions in advance as bank unions have announced multiple strike dates starting September 11, 2026. State Bank of India (SBI) has also advised its customers to complete important banking work before the strike and use digital banking channels for routine transactions.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), representing seven bank unions and associations, has served strike notices for September and October dates.

Bank strike dates in September and October 2026

According to the UFBU strike notice posted on its X account, bank employees associated with the UFBU constituents have proposed to go on strike on the following dates:


September 11, 2026, September 28, 29 and 30, 2026, Continuous strike from October 26, 2026

SBI issues customer advisory for proposed bank strike on Sep 11, 2026

SBI has issued a customer advisory regarding the proposed September 11 bank strike.


In a social media post on X, SBI said that it is making efforts to provide essential services. However, it has advised SBI customers to complete important banking transactions before the strike date.

SBI has also asked customers to use automated teller machines (ATMs) and automated deposit cum withdrawal machines (ADWMs) for their cash requirements and Customer Service Points (CSPs) for available banking services.

SBI customers have been advised to prefer digital banking channels, including internet banking, YONO, mobile banking and Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

Prefer iInternet bBanking, YONO, mMobile bBanking, UPI and other digital channels.

SBI has also expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to customers and thanked them for their understanding.

Will SBI bank branches be open or closed on September 11, 2026?

In its post on X, State Bank of India said that it has made necessary arrangements to ensure normal functioning of branches and offices on the strike days.

However, SBI has also cautioned that banking work may be impacted because of the proposed strike.

This means customers who have important SBI branch-related banking work may complete it today (September 10, 2026), a day ahead of the proposed strike day.

Why have bank unions proposed strike for September 11, 2026?

The UFBU has announced strikes as part of its demands concerning reforms in the banking sector. Among the key demands are the introduction of a five-day banking week and a review of the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

The unions have also urged the government to fulfil its commitment to introduce a five-day banking week.
