SBI PAN Aadhaar linking: Here's how to do it

If your PAN is not linked to your Aadhaar number by the mentioned date, it will become inactive on April 1, 2022. Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act 1961 mandates that Aadhaar numbers be linked to Permanent Account Numbers (PANs) by March 31, 2022.

State Bank of India (SBI) has advised all of its customers to update and link their PAN with Aadhaar to avoid inconvenience and to continue receiving seamless banking services.
The SBI tweet said: “We advise our customers to link their PAN with Aadhaar to avoid any inconvenience and continue enjoying a seamless banking service.”

The tweet also said that “If not linked, PAN will be rendered inoperative/inactive and cannot be quoted for conducting specified transactions.


Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act 1961 mandates that Aadhaar numbers be linked to Permanent Account Numbers (PANs) by March 31, 2022. If your PAN is not linked to your Aadhaar number by the above-mentioned date, it will become inactive on April 1, 2022.

How to check if PAN- Aadhaar is linked
Step 1: Visit www.incometax.gov.in
Step 2: Under the 'Quick links' head, click on 'Link Aadhaar Status' option.
Step 3: Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number, in the new page
Step 4: click on 'View Link Aadhaar Status'.
A pop-up will appear on your screen confirming whether PAN is linked to Aadhaar or not.

Here is how you can link your PAN with Aadhaar
For registered user at income tax e-filing website
Step 1: Visit - https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/ and login using your credentials
Step 2: Go to ‘Profile Settings’ on Menu bar and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’.

Step 3: Details such as name date of birth and gender will already be mentioned as per the PAN details.
Step 4: Check the PAN details on the screen against the ones on your Aadhaar. Please keep in mind that if there is a mismatch, you must have it corrected in both documents.
Step 5: If the details match, enter your Aadhaar number and click on the “link now” button.
A message will appear informing you that your Aadhaar has been successfully linked to your PAN.

By sending an SMS to PAN service providers
By sending a simple SMS, you can link your PAN and Aadhaar. You can send an SMS to either NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited or UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited, the PAN service providers (UTIITL).

Send an SMS with a specific format and a keyword to either 567678 or 56161.
For example, if your Aadhaar number is 111122223333 and PAN is AAAPA9999Q. Then you are required to send sms to 567678 or 56161 as UIDPAN 111122223333 AAAPA9999Q
