SBI alerts customers about KYC fraud: Here are the details

State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest bank, issued a message on Friday via its official Twitter handle to raise customer awareness about recent KYC frauds.

“Dear customer, your SBI Bank account has been suspended for KYC, please complete your KYC 10 minutes promptly by clicking this link.” If you have received this SMS from a personal number then it is yet another KYC fraud you should be aware of.

The country's largest bank, State Bank of India (SBI), sent out a tweet on Friday via its official Twitter handle to raise customer awareness regarding KYC frauds that have been doing the rounds.

In a tweet, SBI stated: “Here is an example of YehWrongNumberHai, KYC fraud. Such SMS can lead to a fraud, and you can lose your savings. Do not click on embedded links. Check for the correct short code of SBI on receiving an SMS. Stay alert and stay SafeWithSBI.”



Further, it said SBI never asks you to update/complete your KYC by clicking on the links embedded in an SMS.

In another tweet on February 26, 2022 it warned on sharing OTP, “ Tell the fraudsters who ask you for your OTP, YehWrongNumberHai & have a safe digital banking experience. Stay alert & SafeWithSBI.




SBI also replied to one of the SBI customers who tweeted about the fraud message stating “We appreciate your alertness and thanks for informing this to us. Our IT Security team will initiate appropriate action on it. Further, we advise all our customers not to respond to emails/ SMS/ calls/embedded links asking them to share their personal or banking details like user ID/ Password/ Debit Card number/ PIN/ CVV/ OTP etc. Bank never ask these information. Customers may report such Phishing/ Smishing/Vishing attempt through email to report.phishing@sbi.co.in or contact on helpline number 155260 for taking action.”

According to SBI website, “Phishing is a fraudulent attempt, usually made through email, phone calls, SMS etc seeking your personal and confidential information.

State Bank or any of its representative never sends you email/SMS or calls you over phone to get your personal information, password or one time SMS (high security) password. Any such e-mail/SMS or phone call is an attempt to fraudulently withdraw money from your account through Internet Banking. Never respond to such email/SMS or phone call. Please report immediately on report.phishing@sbi.co.in if you receive any such email/SMS or Phone call. Immediately change your passwords if you have accidentally revealed your credentials.”
