SBI issues user advisory for May 25-26 bank strike

State Bank of India (SBI) has informed customers that the All India State Bank of India Staff Federation (AISBISF) has given a notice for a two-day strike on May 25 and 26, 2026. In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), SBI has suggested customers to use services such as Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), Customer Service Points (CSPs) and the Yono app for mobile banking.

Which State Bank of India's services are available during the two-day SBI bank strike?

SBI said that it is making efforts to continue essential services at branches during the proposed protest. SBI has advised customers to use ATMs and ADWMs for cash needs, visit Customer Service Points (CSPs) where required, and rely on internet banking, YONO, mobile banking, UPI and other digital channels for banking transactions.

SBI weekend holidays explained (May 23- 24)

SBI bank branches will be closed on May 23 and May 24 as May 23 is a Saturday and May 24 a Sunday. Banks in India are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month.

Why have SBI workers called for a strike on May 23-24?

The SBI Employees Federation has cited several concerns behind the proposed strike call. One of the major issues is the bank’s outsourcing policy, which the federation claims is reducing regular recruitment opportunities for economically weaker sections, rural youth, SCs, STs, OBCs and other underprivileged communities.

The federation has also raised concerns over the shortage of armed guards at branches, saying retirements and promotions have reduced security staff strength at a time when stronger protection is needed for employees, customers and bank assets. Another key demand relates to the National Pension System (NPS). According to the federation, SBI employees are still not allowed to change their Pension Fund Manager despite government rules permitting it, putting them at a disadvantage compared to employees of other public sector banks.

SBI strike dates

SBI staff federation has notified a proposed strike planned on May 25-26 (Monday and Tuesday), 2026, to address its issues like recruitment and the selection of National Pension System (NPS) fund managers.

The All India State Bank of India Staff Federation, the body representing workmen employees of SBI across the country, has also raised concerns about the outsourcing of jobs.

SBI Bakrid holidays on May 27 and 28

Bakrid will be observed on two different days in different states in India. The RBI also has two designated holidays for the festival. In most parts of India, banks, including SBI, will remain closed on May 27 for Bakrid. However, in some parts of India, such as Jammu and Kashmir, banks will remain closed on May 28.
