The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) releases a monthly list of state-wise bank holidays to ensure customers don’t feel inconvenience and can plan their banking tasks accordingly. If you’re planning to visit your bank branch today (Saturday, September 19, 2026) for any financial transaction, it’s important to first check if it will be open or not.

Are banks open or closed today on September 19, 2026?

Banks are open across India today on September 19, 2026. Banks in India are available for offline services on the first, third and fifth (if applicable) Saturdays of the month unless there is a designated holiday.

Banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, in addition to Sundays and designated regional or national holidays.

As per the RBI’s holiday calendar, banks will be closed on the occasions of Janmashtami (Vaishnva), elections in the jurisdiction of Jaipur Municipal Corporation, Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva, Ganesh Chaturthi, Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha)/Nuakhai/Ganesh Chaturthi (2nd Day), Janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva/Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi, Karma Puja, Birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji and Indrajatra, depending on the state.

Many services require physical visit to banks

Though many transactions can be done using net and mobile banking, there are still a few transactions that need a branch visit.

Common banking transactions and services that usually require a physical visit to the branch are:

Cash deposits above prescribed limits and cash withdrawals beyond ATM limits; issuing demand drafts (DDs)/pay orders above certain amounts; submitting or encashing cheques, especially high-value or third-party cheques; applying for or closing a loan; dispute resolution for failed transactions if documents or physical forms are required.
